Lead HV Design Engineer

You’ll oversee and coordinate multiple design projects, guide and develop design engineers, and maintain a strong focus on safety, quality and efficiency throughout.

We’re seeking a Lead HV Design Engineer to take a key role within the substation design team. You’ll provide technical leadership, ensure design excellence, and support the delivery of complex projects from concept through to completion.

• Support tendering and contract processes through technical input and review of design documentation
• Lead by example in promoting safety, professional integrity and continuous improvement
• Undertake design verification and approval of HV design packages, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements
• Contribute to process improvement, design standards and innovation within the design function
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to engineers, project teams and clients
• Deliver technically sound, cost-effective HV substation designs that meet client specifications, budgets and programme requirements
• Maintain close collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve seamless project delivery

We’re looking for an ambitious, technically strong individual with a deep understanding of substation design, ideally within the Transmission & Distribution environment.

• Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills with a proactive, delivery-focused approach
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Power Transmission & Distribution or similar sector
• Degree (BEng/BSc) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or HND with significant relevant experience)
• Confident using 2D CAD design software (Autodesk products preferred)
• Proven experience in HV substation design, with strong working knowledge of National Grid specifications, British Standards and UK DNO/TNO design requirements
• CDAE Certification is highly desirable - however, if you don’t currently hold it, full support and sponsorship will be provided to help you gain certification
