ICS/OT Cybersecurity Engineers and ICS/OT Network Security Engineers support clients in assessing, improving, and maintaining the cybersecurity posture of their ICS/OT environments to mitigate security risks such as insider and external threats, intentional and accidental.
The role’s responsibilities include auditing ICS/OT environments and performing risk and vulnerability assessments. Engineers develop client‑specific cybersecurity roadmaps that prioritize remediation of cyber threats based on likelihood and potential impact, create mitigation plans, and support clients during remediation efforts. They also assist in reviewing and developing industrial cybersecurity programs, security policies, and plans, providing guidance to improve existing OT security programs.
Key responsibilities cover taking inventory of client hardware and software assets and assessing them for security vulnerabilities, obsolescence, and other risks; reviewing network architectures to ensure best practices such as zones & conduits, proper segmentation, and industrial DMZs are followed, and recommending compliance with applicable cybersecurity frameworks; reviewing security products like firewalls, IDS, and IPS for proper configuration; deploying network infrastructure devices, security appliances, and virtualization solutions; reviewing security policies, plans, and procedures, assessing network monitoring capabilities, analyzing system logs, security events, and packet captures to identify threats, and recommending framework‑aligned improvements; evaluating administrative, technical, and physical security controls and suggesting mitigations; performing vulnerability and risk assessments within manufacturing and critical infrastructure environments to identify issues such as insecure remote access points or unauthorized devices and recommending remediation; creating detailed diagrams, procedures, and implementation plans to support projects; and traveling to client sites as required.
Required experience includes a CISSP certification, a degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field, strong understanding of ICS/OT cybersecurity frameworks (ISA‑99/IEC 62443, NIST SP 800‑82, CIS, etc.), deep knowledge of OT communication protocols and industrial networking topologies, and at least three years of hands‑on experience designing and implementing ICS/OT network architectures. Candidates must also demonstrate technical skills to analyze, design, and deploy complex Ethernet/IP architectures.
Preferred qualifications include certifications such as CSSA, GIAC (GICSP, GRID), ISA/IEC 62443 certificates, networking credentials (CCNA, CCNP, JNCIP‑ENT), and other cybersecurity certifications (CEH, CISA, CISM, CCSP). Additional expertise in MITRE ATT&CK for ICS, NERC CIP, general cybersecurity frameworks (ISO IEC 27001/27002, ISO 15408, NIST CSF, NIST SP 800‑53), industrial control systems, vulnerability/penetration testing, threat hunting, and prior experience as a Control System or SCADA Engineer in manufacturing or power generation environments is valued. Experience across industries such as food and beverage, chemical, pharma, semiconductor, water and wastewater, refining, pulp and paper, oil/gas pipeline, power generation, electrical transmission and distribution, material handling, and packaging is also beneficial.
