Take your next step with Saulsbury Industries! The position is located in Houston or Odessa, Texas, and is a full‑time, in‑office role. As the Electrical, Instrument, & Controls Design Lead, you will oversee the design of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems for capital projects.
You will develop plant instrumentation and electrical power systems that meet national and company standards, and collaborate within a team to achieve project objectives. Designs will include medium and low voltage power distribution, control wiring, plant lighting, heat tracing, and instrumentation installation. You will also verify the accuracy and completeness of all deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead design of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems for capital projects.
- Design plant instrumentation and electrical power systems to national and company standards.
- Create medium and low voltage power distribution, control wiring, lighting, heat tracing, and instrumentation layouts.
- Verify accuracy and completeness of all design deliverables.
- Provide design support and leadership to construction teams throughout project life.

The role requires at least ten years of industrial design experience in process plant instrumentation and electrical power systems, including lead design and design‑checking responsibilities on EPC projects. Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and a solid understanding of the National Electrical Code are essential. An associate degree in industrial technology or equivalent experience, and medium‑voltage (above 1,000 V) design expertise are also required.
Physical demands include prolonged periods of desk work, the ability to stand for extended times, walk the job site and laydown yards, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Minimum 10 years industrial design experience in process plant instrumentation and electrical power systems.
- Experience in lead design roles, design checking, and EPC project execution.
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; associate degree or equivalent experience required.
- Medium‑voltage (> 1,000 V) design expertise and strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
- Strong electrical design skills: conduit/cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, hazardous‑location equipment selection, motor control schematics.
- Strong instrumentation design skills: circuit design, installation details, control panel layout, device selection.
- Familiarity with pneumatic, electronic, and analytical instrumentation for flow, temperature, pressure, level, and fluid analysis.
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID, loop drawings, wiring schematics, and specifications.
- Preferred: experience in mid‑stream gas plants, transmission, lighting, heat‑trace, field, substation, and refinery projects.
