  • Be experienced in the regulatory role of Principal Designer and the non-regulatory roles of Principal Designer Support and Client CDM Adviser under the CDM Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015).
  • As a minimum be a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) and ideally an Incorporated Member of the APS (IMaPS).
  • Substantial experience of working as a Principal Designer and Client CDM Adviser under the CDM 2015 Regulations is essential.
  • Good at taking instruction but also with the initiative to work autonomously.
  • Good at leading a team and developing those reporting to you.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Occupational Health and Safety Management.
  • Diligent with an eye to detail.
  • Be able to meet timescales and deadlines and have a good ability to manage time independently and effectively.
  • Able to evidence undertaking Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and maintenance of skills.
  • Methodical approach with good attention to detail to ensure a professional standard is provided at all times.
  • Significant experience of working as a General H&S Adviser under UK H&S Legislation is essential.
  • As a minimum have successfully completed the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or the National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety.
  • Demonstrable experience of undertaking Construction Site Health and Safety Inspections and Advice is essential.
  • Ability to remain flexible within a busy and expanding team reporting directly to the Associate Director – Safety Management CDM Team.
  • Have a positive working attitude along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience of working within the Defence Sector is advantageous, but not essential.
  • Strong business development techniques.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering CDM and General H&S training is desirable.
  • Have the skillset and ability to be proactive, comfortable, and assured in liaising with workers, senior management and all other interested parties on all matters relating to health and safety when working as a Principal H&S Adviser.
  • Good communicator and listener with the ability to plan, manage and co-ordinate own workload.
  • Experience of line management is desirable.
  • Be able to engage, liaise and respond to Clients in a mature and professional manner.
  • Holder of a full, clean driving licence and having access to a suitable vehicle (which will be made available for use at work, and which possess the requisite business use insurance) is essential.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of CDM 2015.
  • Confident, proactive, engaging, and motivated.
  • Have the skillset required to be able to undertake line management of relevant Safety Management team members.
  • Be able to fulfil all Principal Designer duty holder requirements under CDM 2015.
  • Demonstrable experience and ability in relevant sectors across the construction industry – particularly the ones TCE is strong in (detailed in this job specification) is essential.
  • Hold appropriate professional memberships of, among others; IOSH, APS, CIOB, IIRSM, IRM and, IRSM.
  • Have the skillset and ability to be proactive, comfortable, and assured in liaising with Clients, Designers, Contractors and Principal Contractors on all matters relating to health and safety in design and construction when working as the Principal CDM Adviser on construction projects.
  • Have the skillset required to be able to integrate seamlessly into both the Safety Management team and the wider TCE Operating Unit.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Construction Health and Safety Management.
  • Be comfortable in being able to challenge designs, suggested methodologies and working practices.
  • Have the skillset and ability to be part of the TCE Wales / Southwest Business Development teams and to help drive business development in these regions.
  • Be professionally qualified to NEBOSH or equivalent standards.
