The Maintenance Supervisor role is responsible for identifying and verifying required maintenance work, interpreting contract terms, and scheduling and coordinating both in‑house and subcontracted activities to ensure timely, efficient and profitable delivery. Supervision of maintenance crews and adherence to contract specifications are core duties, and the position offers a competitive salary of $73k‑$76k annually, requiring a Full G driver's licence.
Key duties include performing condition assessments of pavements, signs, guardrails, tunnels, bridges and vegetation, planning and coordinating work with the Operations Manager, and inspecting ongoing and completed tasks for compliance. The supervisor also handles crew selection, development and performance management, facilitates safety and training programs, responds to emergencies, and oversees fleet inspection and repair. Additional responsibilities cover asset and material management, process improvement, work order creation, claim review, documentation, inventory control, stakeholder communication, subcontractor qualification, routine traffic control, and availability for overtime or weekend emergency rotations.
The role demands strong basic math skills, effective written and verbal communication, the ability to read and interpret technical documents and contracts, and proficiency in MS Excel, Word and internet research. Candidates must exhibit a high safety awareness, enforce PPE use, troubleshoot problems, multitask, and meet deadlines while presenting information clearly to managers, clients and the public.
A high school diploma, a minimum of five years’ experience in construction or road maintenance, and prior supervisory experience are required, along with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. The position involves physical tasks such as standing, walking on varied surfaces, lifting up to 50 lb, and operating manual and powered tools, with work split between office and field environments.
