Construction Inspector - (Transportation/Highway)

Description

• Conduct material sampling and testing (asphalt, concrete, soils, aggregates) according to MoDOT/IDOT procedures.
• Identify, document, and report discrepancies or deficiencies to the project engineer or manager promptly.
• Maintain accurate records of project progress, materials used, and any non-compliance issues.
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and project managers to resolve field issues efficiently.
• Document construction activities daily through detailed reports, photographs, and field notes.
• Perform on-site inspection of construction projects including highways, bridges, and roadways to ensure compliance with project specifications, MoDOT/IDOT standards, and safety regulations.
• Review construction plans, shop drawings, and materials to verify conformance with approved designs and applicable codes.
• Stay current with MoDOT/IDOT construction standards, specifications, and procedures.
• Participate in pre-construction and progress meetings to communicate inspection findings and recommendations.
• Monitor contractor activities to ensure adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and schedule requirements.

Requirements

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a field environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear, concise inspection reports.
• Familiarity with MoDOT or IDOT construction standards, specifications, and inspection procedures.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with inspection software or databases.
• Experience in transportation or civil construction inspection (preferred 1–5 years, depending on position level).
• Knowledge of materials testing procedures for asphalt, concrete, soils, and aggregates.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction safety standards and field inspection protocols.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to project sites.
