Energy Efficiency Engineers work with commercial and industrial customers in the area to identify and verify energy savings projects while facilitating Idaho Power incentives.

Position Overview: The Energy Efficiency Engineer is responsible for working with commercial and industrial customers to identify projects to reduce energy usage, quantify energy savings, and facilitate utility incentives. This includes a lot of problem solving, collaboration and interaction with coworkers, customers, vendors, and clients.

  • Working with industrial and commercial customers to scope and develop energy efficiency projects
  • Supporting Strategic Energy Management (SEM) at commercial and industrial sites
  • Conducting on-site measurement and verification of energy projects
  • Performing high-level energy engineering analyses to inform customer decision making
  • Working with mechanical contractors to scope commercial HVAC energy efficiency projects and communicating utility incentive program requirements
  • Conducting deep-dive technical energy efficiency studies of industrial and commercial mechanical systems
  • Performing retrocommissioning / building controls optimization efforts
  • Writing clear and concise technical reports for technical and non-technical audiences

We are looking for people with a wide range of technical and soft skills. Our engineers are excellent communicators who can deep-dive into a technical analysis while seeing the big picture of each project.

  • Experience analyzing commercial and industrial energy systems and quantifying annual energy savings
  • Engineering degree and/or great experience required
  • At least 4 years’ experience in the energy efficiency or mechanical engineering field
  • Capability of working autonomously and collaboratively on a team, with good project and time management skills
  • A high energy, self-starter with excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Ability to identify mechanical and electrical equipment in the field and explain control methods and what retrofits or changes can be implemented to conserve energy
  • Experience conducting ASHRAE Level II Audits
  • Excellent writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • P.E., EIT, CEM, and/or CMVP preferred
  • Working knowledge of commercial and industrial mechanical systems and building science

  • Location: Boise, ID or surrounding areas. Positions are hybrid with a mix of working from home and with boots on the ground throughout Idaho Power’s territory (primarily Boise to Pocatello). Relocation assistance is available.
  • Base Pay: $80,000-$135,000 annually (Engineer II – Senior Engineer) with opportunities for advancement. All positions are eligible for an annual bonus and profit share on top of base pay.
