

Provides energy services across multiple states, focusing on clean, reliable, and affordable solutions.
Key tasks include installing, maintaining, and inspecting gas meters, regulators, mains, services, and odorization equipment for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The apprentice will operate mechanical trenching and excavating equipment, handle routine and emergency orders, evaluate gas‑fired appliances, perform PE fusion, surveys, locating, meter reading, valve maintenance, and material handling, while working in physically demanding conditions such as climbing and digging.
The Gas Distribution Apprentice role involves duties in construction, service, and pressure regulation, operating company vehicles, responding to emergencies, and completing a four‑year apprenticeship program. Employees must also be available for overtime and emergency work.
Applicants need a high school diploma or GED, with plumbing, HVAC, or construction skills preferred. A valid, unencumbered Colorado driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 30 days) and a CDL within six months, plus a DOT physical, are required. The role demands the ability to lift 70 lb alone or more with assistance, and candidates must pass Xcel Energy’s drug and background screening, federal pipeline safety exams, and a Gas Respirator Qualification. Residency within 40 miles (40 minutes) of the service center and not east of Eisenhower Tunnel is also required.
