Key duties include maintaining, monitoring, and performing preventive maintenance on all data‑center systems to achieve 100 % uptime. This covers fire and life‑safety systems, mechanical components such as HVAC, chillers, CRAC, plumbing, and controls, as well as electrical backup equipment like UPS, ATS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, and transformers.
The technician monitors building‑management systems, responds promptly to alarms, records equipment readings, and makes adjustments to ensure proper operation. They analyze system performance, identify causes of malfunctions, and take corrective actions while complying with hazardous‑material policies and maintaining a clean, safe workplace.
Work order management involves using CMMS, coordinating with vendors, handling customer‑facing tickets, and following emergency escalation procedures. The role also requires flexibility to work varied schedules, holidays, and respond to site emergencies.
The Critical Facilities Data Center Technician focuses on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across all systems. Individuals must demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area—electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, or central utility plant operations—and be multi‑skilled in others to complete daily and weekly assignments.
Minimum qualifications include a high‑school diploma or GED and at least four years of related experience. Candidates must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to read and interpret technical documents, safety rules, and regulatory codes, and the capability to write routine reports and present to small groups.
Additional skills include proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access, as well as the ability to interact professionally with tenants and contractors. Preferred experience covers Corrigo, MCIM/Salesforce, Zendesk, ServiceNow, and hands‑on data‑center/critical‑facility work, especially with UPS systems.
Physical requirements involve frequent walking across large campus‑like settings, climbing stairs and rooftops, lifting a minimum of 50 lb, and using ladders up to 30 ft. The position demands the ability to work different schedules, including holidays, and to respond to emergencies on site.
