The VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Specialist creates plumbing and/or mechanical system 3D models to ensure best adherence to established project specifications, code requirements and QuesTec standards. Additionally, he/she strives to exploit the strengths of QuesTec’s pre-fabrication processes, assisting in controlling internal costs through materials and labor optimization.

  • Provides complete, detailed drawings to Pre-fab for parts manufacture, and to the job site for use in construction of and installation of material and equipment
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, training and seminars as required
  • Generates construction and fabrication models/drawings for a variety of small and large complex commercial and industrial mechanical system projects
  • Reviews equipment documents from Project Management for accuracy and completeness
  • Promotes collaboration among PMs, Foremen and fellow BIM Designers
  • Provides effective feedback and guidance to Estimators, PMs , and Foremen to ensure project success and to promote learning and effectiveness regarding future and current projects
  • Reviews models/drawings for apparent conflicts with architectural and/or structural contract requirements to ensure compliance with local, state and federal codes
  • Performs site surveys and field measurement work as needed to support the conceptual and design drawings
  • Works closely with Project Managers to obtain clarity and resolution through the RFI process

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in architecture engineering, information modeling or building information modeling preferred
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work and interact with others in a positive manner
  • This position requires industry knowledge related to the overall scope of plumbing and mechanical systems and specifically of commercial piping design and installation.
  • Analytical organizational skills required for effective design pertaining to a myriad of project variables.
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Highly proficient with technology and basic computer software programs
  • Solid understanding of building codes and safety practices
  • Attention to detail and quality of work performed by self and work to be assigned to project(s)
  • Ability to read and interpret diagrams, plans and manuals
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience with CAD or drafting design software preferred
  • 8000 on-the-job field hours preferred (OJT hours in commercial plumbing/pipefitting)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Available and willing to travel to assigned job sites
  • Available and willing to work overtime, as needed
  • Accepts guidance and exhibits a willingness to communicate positively with Estimators, Project Managers, Foremen, and Field Superintendent
  • Advanced geometry skills required.
