The UGE General Foreman manages crews to complete daily tasks related to the construction and maintenance of underground power lines. This role requires extensive knowledge of underground electrical distribution systems, crew management, troubleshooting, storm‑crew coordination, and resource scheduling. The foreman reads blueprints, ensures production efficiency, provides training, maintains crew safety, and coordinates logistics with internal and external departments.
- Obtain all necessary materials for the job and ensure permits and licenses are in place.
- Oversee work related to each project and assume full responsibility for its quality and timeliness.
- Comply with proper safety standards, procedures, and work practices according to MasTec or the customer, whichever is higher.
- Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections, disseminating information and ensuring understanding of safety briefings.
- Coordinate and supervise daily tasks for crew members related to digging and placing product.
- Perform switching procedures to isolate and insulate, splice, and terminate underground power lines following safety procedures.
- Connect, disconnect, install, remove, move, and transfer various electrical devices on customer facilities, such as transformers, regulator banks, switches, and capacitor banks.
- Drive, haul, and operate equipment to and from job sites to assist crews in completing work.
- Train new hires and trainees to learn the trade.
- Call in utilities located at each project site.

The position operates in a field environment and routinely involves bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standing for long periods, often in extreme weather conditions. Employees must have clear vision, precise hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to distinguish colors. The role is physically active and may require lifting and carrying equipment.
- Properly phase and mark/tag underground equipment.
- Minimum qualification: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum qualification: 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment and general construction.
- Minimum qualification: 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Minimum qualification: Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or obtain one within 90 days.
- Preferred qualification: 10 or more years of experience, including significant experience supervising and training skilled labor.
- Preferred qualification: OSHA 20 Certification.
