Operate and maintain Topcon GNSS, Total Station layout systems and builders’ level to ensure proper elevations, invert accuracy, and correct slope and grade.
Provide onsite pour watch to verify layouts and safeguard penetrations and sleeves during concrete pours.
Proactively identify potential layout conflicts and communicate solutions.
Conduct spot checks on layout and installations to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
Support site safety, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with company and regulatory safety standards.
Execute deck canning layout to ensure accuracy prior to concrete placement.
Maintain accurate documentation, records and as-builts of layout activities.
Mentor, train, and support employees on layout techniques across mechanical scope, fostering skill development and consistency.
Provide clear, concise, and timely layout information to support installation crews.
Perform below-grade layout for drainage installations, sumps, manholes, elevator pits, sleeves, and mechanical penetrations (horizontal and vertical).
Communicates effectively with field crews, site supervisors, and project managers.
Collaborate with the Field Operations Manager and site supervisors to align layout with construction schedules and project goals.
Provide accurate layout for equipment pads, risers, hangers, and mechanical rooms, ensuring design intent is met.
Use AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and PlanGrid to prepare, update, and verify layout drawings and field documentation.
Provides mentorship and training to junior staff in layout techniques.

Proficient with Topcon GNSS, Total Station systems and builders’ level for mechanical layout.
Proactive in maintaining current knowledge of surveying practices, emerging technologies, and industry standards.
Ability to calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot layout equipment and surveying tools.
Experienced with PlanGrid (Autodesk Build) and Bluebeam for drawing management, markups, coordination, and clash detection.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, capable of resolving layout and coordination issues.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between projects.
Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently when required.
Comfortable using laptops, iPads, and digital reporting tools for layout documentation.
Skilled in AutoCAD (MEP preferred) for mechanical drawings and layout verification.
Journeyperson status in plumbing, pipefitting, or sheet metal, or a technical diploma in surveying, civil, or mechanical technology (considered an asset).
Demonstrated experience in mechanical layout, survey, or foreman-level field coordination.
Strong understanding of building mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, piping, equipment).
Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, schematics, and specifications.
Strong understanding of survey QA/QC processes and tolerance checks for mechanical systems.
