The Field Collector supports engineering services by gathering highly detailed telecommunications data directly from job sites. This role validates existing field designs and layouts of outside plant (OSP) networks, including aerial, buried, and underground fiber, conduit, handholes, building entrances, and riser facilities.
- Identify, photograph, and document OSP facilities such as cables, poles, terminals, pedestals, and handholes.
- Capture accurate measurements of attachment heights, span distances, utility structures, and distances to centerlines, property lines, and curb lines.
- Record power and communication facility ownership on utility poles.
- Document bonding, grounding, guying, and anchor information.
- Deliver detailed field notes and photographs to the engineering team.
- Identify obstructions to fiber placement and propose mitigation strategies.
- Utilize tools including measuring wheels, height sticks, pull finders, GPS devices, MH/HH hooks, and laser rangefinders.
- Operate electronic devices (iPad, iPhone, laptop) for file sharing and email communication.
- Update completion dates and relevant job information in the Insite system.
- Work independently with minimal supervision to achieve daily objectives.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Field Engineering teams to resolve client issues.
- Maintain regular, punctual, and predictable attendance.
- Read as‑built prints, identify conflicts, and select routing for projects.
- Learn new technical systems and tools quickly.
- Resolve problems using standard practices within defined policies and guidelines.
- Perform duties in poor weather conditions such as heat, snow, rain, or wind.
- Follow OSHA, state, and local safety standards and work safely with or without supervision.

- Apply knowledge of OSP construction techniques and read digital GIS maps, conduit records, and layout drawings.
- Possess 2+ years experience in fiber‑optic/telecommunications construction.
- Hold a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Understand outside plant activities, make‑ready issues, and right‑of‑way/easement documentation.
- Familiar with GIS, ESRI, shapefile functionality, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD (preferred).
- Maintain a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record; pass drug screen and background check.
- Demonstrate strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lb.
- Travel extensively, working on‑site across multiple states and potentially up to 100 % travel with overnight stays.
- Work outdoors approximately 95 % of the time and walk up to 3 mi on varied terrain.
Benefits
