Provides information to Bridge Design for contract repairs;
Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work of Bridge Section in Central Office of Maintenance;
Assists in determining which bridge repairs can be undertaken by state personnel and which require outside contract;
Acts as Office of Maintenance liaison between other departmental units and outside agencies and/or officials in all maintenance matters pertaining to state fixed and movable bridges and orphan and adopted town road bridges over railroads;
Evaluates field reports of programs for bridge structure replacement or major repairs;
Provides staff training and assistance;
Secures approval for closure of drawbridges for repairs or maintenance;
Oversees and coordinates operational activities of four Maintenance Districts in area of bridge and structure maintenance;
Oversees review and appraisal of inspection reports;
Represents state on federal and/or state committees and panels;
Determines priorities and plans section work;
Establishes and maintains section procedures;
Acts as liaison with United States Coast Guard and United States Army Engineers for navigation clearances, dredging, fill and submarine cables;
Assists Transportation Maintenance Administrator in formulation of policies and procedures relating to bridge maintenance operations;

Experience effectively communicating and collaborating with external agencies and partners, including federal and state transportation agencies, law enforcement, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders, and to prepare complex technical reports and regulatory submissions.
For state employees the Special Experience is interpreted at the level of a Transportation Supervising Engineer (Engineering).
Experience Managing bridge maintenance and operations programs, including planning, prioritization, and oversight of work for state-owned bridges, municipal/adopted bridges, drawbridges, fixed structures, and related assets.
Experience overseeing large-scale programs or units, including contractor management, vendor coordination, funding oversight, and contract administration for maintenance and equipment services.
Supervisory ability.
Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
Considerable knowledge of
Knowledge of hydraulic design;
Considerable ability in analysis of bridge and structural issues and identification of accurate and/or timely corrective measures;
Incumbents must possess Professional Engineer (PE) licensure from the Department of Consumer Protection State Board of Examiners for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors consistent with C.G.S.
principles and practices involved in design, construction and maintenance of bridges and structures with particular reference to safety, maximum usage and potential failure;
