The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) department safeguards the wellbeing of employees, contractors and visitors across all projects and sites. It creates, implements and monitors safety policies, risk assessments and compliance with legal and industry standards. By fostering a strong safety culture and promoting environmental responsibility, the team protects people, reduces incidents and supports sustainable business practices throughout Alternative Heat.
To support projected growth, the business seeks a proactive HSE Officer who will manage all health, safety and environmental aspects of decarbonisation, under‑floor heating and maintenance projects. The role involves developing, implementing and overseeing comprehensive safety and environmental programmes to ensure safe, compliant workplaces, reduce risk and embed a culture of wellbeing.
The Officer will work closely with the line manager, in‑house teams, client representatives and project delivery teams throughout all phases of decarbonisation projects. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with client‑specific and legal requirements, conducting site visits, providing expert HSE guidance and driving continuous improvement through best practices and innovative behavioural‑safety approaches.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record managing HSE functions within commercial M&E, building services or construction, and can develop robust safety programmes for large, complex projects across the UK, Ireland and Europe. They will lead risk assessments, inspections, audits and incident investigations, influence stakeholders, integrate HSE principles into planning and delivery, and drive training, competency and compliance with legal and industry standards throughout design, prefabrication, modularisation and onsite installation.
