The role involves deploying to disaster sites to support FEMA programs such as Public Assistance (PA) and Individual Assistance (IA). Mechanical Engineers will perform field inspections of damaged facilities, document damage, develop restoration scopes, formulate cost estimates, and assist with hazard‑mitigation planning while advising FEMA and local agencies on technical requirements.
FEMA-Disaster Recovery Specialists (Mechanical Engineers) are needed to join the Dewberry team and support disaster recovery work across the United States. Dewberry maintains a cadre of skilled professional and technical staff in an on‑call capacity to assist FEMA and other government entities.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) and have at least five years of professional experience with public infrastructure. Required knowledge includes modern construction practices, facility assessments, the International Building Code, ADA compliance, and proficiency with MS Office. Strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to work independently and in teams under stress, and a willingness to work long hours during deployments are essential.
Preferred qualifications include a Licensed Professional Engineer status, additional experience with FEMA PA program law and policy, prior FEMA roles such as Program Delivery Manager or Site Inspector, familiarity with FEMA’s Grants Manager or Grants Portal, and proficiency with cost‑estimating software like RS Means and Xactimate.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens able to obtain a Public Trust clearance, possess a valid driver’s license with a clean record, and be willing to undergo a background investigation.
