The Jacketline Operator on the 2nd shift operates the Jacket‑Line Extruder to apply final jackets to various cables and steel, following engineering specifications and standard operating procedures. The role includes setting up the line according to manuals, ensuring the correct print is applied, performing computer functions for specifications, completing quality check sheets, handling basic math for tooling, tagging reels, and reporting production data.
The operator conducts continuous visual inspections, reports any quality or process issues, follows the Operations Manual to maximize machine capability, cleans tooling after use, coordinates production runs with the supervisor, maintains printing equipment and material supplies, performs daily housekeeping, adheres to safety standards, and maintains an adequate supply of take‑up reels to ensure uninterrupted operation.
- Operate Jacket‑Line Extruder to apply jackets to round, flat, hoistway, compensation cables and steel per specifications.
- Set up and adjust the jacket line following Operations and QAI manuals.
- Verify and apply correct print on jackets before production.
- Use computer systems to select specifications, print requirements, and track material consumption.
- Complete in‑process quality check sheets for each finished reel.
- Perform basic calculations for tooling and reel tagging.
- Record daily production data including footage, conductor count, set‑ups, and downtime codes.
- Conduct continuous visual inspections and promptly report quality or process issues.
- Maintain and clean all tooling and printing equipment; ensure clear, legible prints.
- Coordinate production schedules with supervisor to meet order deadlines.
- Perform daily housekeeping and uphold the highest safety standards.
- Keep an adequate supply of take‑up reels to ensure uninterrupted line operation.
- Work collaboratively during set‑up and start‑up to minimize downtime, alternating between operating the line and handling take‑up.
- Meet physical demands: lift heavy reels, stand for long periods, walk frequently, use hand tools, and have color perception.
- Read and interpret process instructions from POS, Operations, and QAI manuals.
