Frazer-Nash Consultancy delivers engineering, innovation, and technology solutions across industries.
The role provides an opportunity to lead technical delivery across a broad aerospace portfolio, sharpening consultancy capabilities while guiding junior engineers and graduates. There is also potential to work on non‑defence aerospace programmes, expanding the individual's skill set.
Clients rely on expertise for initial platform certification, type‑design modifications, continuing airworthiness, and the technical delivery of complex projects. The position is ideal for engineers who have operated within Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) project or delivery teams, or who have frontline command experience, with civil certification experience also welcomed.
Candidates must possess a strong aerospace engineering background, be a deep practitioner in platform certification or airworthiness, and have at least ten years of experience leading engineering teams. Chartered Engineer status (RAeS, IMechE or IET) and demonstrable work in certification environments—covering structures, propulsion or software assurance—is required. Familiarity with safety work, regulatory standards such as EASA CS and Defence Standard 00‑970, and the production of certification artefacts is essential, as is a customer‑focused mindset and an understanding of air‑system lifecycle safety.
Preferred qualifications include an engineering degree, specialist training in structures, propulsion or software, and direct defence experience such as work within a DE&S delivery team or use of the Air Engineering Toolkit. Experience on frontline squadrons, civilian defence platform projects, testing and trials, or as an engineering consultant is also valued.
All candidates must be able to meet UK National Security Vetting requirements, as the role involves access to sensitive information.
The Lead Aviation Certification Specialist role offers a salary between £55,000 and £70,000 per annum, dependent on experience, and is based in Burton, Bristol, Gloucester, Plymouth or Portsmouth.
