Description

The Operations Manager will select, supervise and train employees in their respective positions to ensure safe, professional and efficient service. This individual provides leadership that fosters positive employee‑employer relations and projects a professional corporate image. The role emphasizes high standards of appearance, fair treatment, and adherence to wage and hour guidelines.

• Ensure fair treatment of all personnel.
• Maintain high appearance standards across operations.
• Apply progressive discipline to performance issues.
• Complete driver paperwork (truck reports, logs, inspections) daily.
• Conduct annual performance reviews and approve compensation changes.
• Follow all wage and hour regulations.
• Prioritize tasks to meet customer service commitments.
• Direct collection and disposal services to optimize personnel and equipment.
• Set and review productivity standards for each operation phase.
• Protect and preserve company assets.
• Ensure drivers are DOT compliant.
• Ensure compliance with all DOT regulations.
• Enter product line data into TRUX daily as needed.
• Assist with scheduled route audits.
• Help develop and execute an operating profit plan covering revenue growth, cost control, growth objectives, productivity standards, and capital requirements.
• Promote a safety program to prevent accidents and recognize safe employees.
• Investigate accidents and prepare required paperwork.
• Conduct routine route observations.
• Schedule, plan and lead monthly safety meetings.
• Recruit, interview, hire, train and discipline product line personnel.
• Ensure employees wear the proper GFL uniform.
• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and directives.
• Meet safety‑sensitive function criteria per company standards.
• Occasionally work in motor vehicle traffic conditions.

Requirements

• BA or BS degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• 2–3 years waste industry experience preferred.
• May require a Commercial Driver’s License.
• Demonstrate proven leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear and climb.
• Visual acuity requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, focus adjustment.
• Work in an office environment 80% of the time.
• Moderate noise levels.
