On a daily basis you will ensure the safety and welfare of persons in custody by transporting and supervising detainees, supporting court security, managing conflict with empathy, and conducting walking and mobile patrols. You will also escort individuals to appointments, keep accurate records, and uphold a fair, open‑minded attitude toward diversity.
To succeed, you must be available for full‑time training in Perth for six weeks, commit to at least 12 months of service, be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and pass a pre‑employment medical examination including drug and alcohol testing.
The Custody Officer role offers a chance to make a real difference in the community while working within a supportive team that backs you. As part of the Department of Justice’s commitment to safety, you will join an extraordinary group of Custody Officers based in Broome, helping to create a secure environment for detainees.
The position includes a fully funded Certificate III in Correctional Services and six weeks of paid training, providing the skills needed for this unique job. You will start at $27.35 per hour during training, increase to $29.50 afterward, and receive a regional allowance of $10,189 per year added to your fortnightly wages.
