The incumbent will ensure that all relevant standards are technically sound, aligned with international best practices, and adapted to local climatic, environmental, and material conditions. The role involves close collaboration with public agencies, consultants, design offices, and standardization committees to achieve uniform national codes that promote safety, sustainability, and efficiency.
Mechanical Engineer (Plumbing & Fire Protection) will play a key role in the development, review, standardization, and unification of engineering and technical codes related to building mechanical systems, particularly plumbing, water supply, drainage, and fire protection systems.
- Contribute to the evaluation and certification of materials, equipment, and systems used in mechanical installations.
- Conduct comparative studies of international mechanical codes and develop proposals for localized adaptations.
- Provide technical assistance in preparing official publications, guidance manuals, and standard reference documents.
- Review, update, and harmonize existing national standards and design codes related to plumbing, water supply, sanitary drainage, and fire protection systems.
- Coordinate with engineering consultants, government ministries, and regulatory bodies to ensure unified code implementation and understanding.
- Identify emerging technologies and innovations in water conservation, fire safety, and energy-efficient mechanical systems for potential inclusion in national standards.
- Review project documentation and audit compliance with approved mechanical standards.
- Recommend sustainable and cost-effective engineering solutions consistent with national safety objectives.
- Support the development of inspection and verification procedures for plumbing and fire protection systems.
- Support in organizing and conducting workshops, training sessions, and awareness programs on newly developed or revised codes.
- Maintain and update technical databases, standards repositories, and best-practice guidelines.
- Ensure alignment between mechanical system standards and associated civil, architectural, and electrical codes.
- Draft new technical codes and specifications aligned with NFPA, ASHRAE, IPC, UPC, and ISO standards while adapting them to regional conditions and available materials.
- Participate in technical committees responsible for the approval and unification of building mechanical standards across various ministries and authorities.
- Evaluate mechanical designs and technical submissions for compliance with approved standards and codes.

- Familiarity with BIM tools and mechanical design software (e.g., Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, Elite Fire, HASS, or similar).
- Good command over English.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
- Strong understanding of material standards, testing methods, and equipment certifications.
- Good communication skills, both in presentation and documentation.
- Master’s degree in Building Services, Fire Protection, or Plumbing Systems Engineering is preferred.
- Minimum of Ten (10) of relevant experience in mechanical system design, technical review, or code development, preferably within consulting firms, authorities, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- In-depth knowledge of Plumbing systems: water supply, drainage, stormwater, sewage, and sanitary systems.
- Excellent reporting, documentation, and coordination skills.
- Energy and water efficiency measures (ASHRAE, LEED).
- Fire protection systems: sprinklers, hydrants, fire pumps, detection and alarm systems, and suppression agents.
