You will collaborate closely with clients, project managers, and cross‑functional design teams to translate specifications into detailed electrical designs, drawings, and bills of materials. The position also involves providing technical support during client meetings, coordinating with purchasing, and ensuring compliance with Powell’s standards and safety regulations.
- Design standard jobs with guidance to match client specifications and requirements
- Draft electrical construction drawings using AutoCAD alongside mechanical and wiring teams
- Engineer 480 V to 5 kV motor control and 480 V to 38 kV switchgear, plus miscellaneous equipment
- Interpret project write‑ups, client specifications, drawings, and correspondence with supervisors and project managers
- Create and validate Bills of Materials for client submittal and approval per Powell standards
- Conduct self‑design reviews to verify accuracy before releasing projects to manufacturing
- Provide technical support in client meetings
- Coordinate with purchasing and suppliers to specify and approve component parts and assemblies
- Notify supervisors and project managers promptly of issues affecting scope, budget, or schedule
- Collaborate with electrical and mechanical design teams to produce wiring diagrams, one‑line, three‑line diagrams, control schemes, and mechanical layouts
- Produce AC and DC schematics, door component layouts, wiring diagrams, and one‑line diagrams for approval, construction, and as‑built submissions
- Support sales, application engineering, and inspection teams with technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle
- Assist production engineers in daily problem‑solving
- Adhere to Powell policies, work instructions, ISO policies, and safety rules and regulations
- Meet regularly with clients, suppliers, and OEMs
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects, schedules, and budgets in a fast‑paced environment
- Carry out engineering development tasks and address production issues
- Work collaboratively in cross‑functional teams
- Apply NEC, IEEE, ANSI, UL, and other relevant codes and standards daily
- Develop cost‑effective solutions for engineered‑to‑order products
- Work primarily in an office environment with occasional shop, field, and customer site exposure
- Follow safety policies, use protective equipment, and adhere to all safety practices

The ideal candidate holds a BS in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with 1‑3 years of engineering experience and proficiency in AutoCAD and electrical design.
