The Leave Specialist manages all leave of absence and job accommodation processes for approximately 3,300 employees across multiple shifts, covering FMLA, ADA, state‑specific leaves, military leave, bereavement, parental/bonding leave, intermittent leave, and employer‑sponsored programs such as STD/LTD. The role ensures accuracy, compliance, and timely communication by partnering with employees, managers, HR leaders, payroll, safety, vendors, and other HR partners.
- Serve as the primary contact for all employee leave requests.
- Partner with UNUM to process, update, and maintain leave cases in the UKG Leave module.
- Communicate leave procedures, timelines, and pay/benefit impacts to employees and leaders.
- Manage all phases of FMLA, including continuous and intermittent leave.
- Coordinate STD/LTD claims with carriers and align outcomes with payroll and leave status.
- Administer state leave programs, military/USERRA, bereavement, jury duty, personal, and company‑specific leaves.
- Ensure accurate UKG time and attendance coding and reconcile with payroll for paid/unpaid status and PTO.
- Coordinate loan payments and repayments with Principal.
- Oversee transitions from STD to LTD to COBRA/Direct Bill.
- Participate in the ADA interactive process, reviewing essential job functions and accommodations.
- Support return‑to‑work planning, work restrictions, and transitional duties.
- Collaborate with Benefits, Payroll, Safety, Workers’ Compensation, Talent Acquisition, and HR Site Leaders to align processes.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local leave laws and work with Legal/HR Compliance on complex cases.
- Maintain complete case documentation to support audits.
- Identify leave trends and propose process improvements.

- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field with 2–3 years of leave/accommodation experience, or 3+ years relevant experience.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of FMLA, ADA, USERRA, state leave laws, and STD/LTD programs.
- Proficient in UKG timekeeping systems, case management tools, and Excel.
- Exhibit excellent attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, and ability to manage high volumes.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and sound judgment for issue resolution.
- Preferred: experience in manufacturing, distribution, or high‑volume hourly environments and familiarity with union leave provisions.
