Fleet Road Mechanic

Description

• Visit job sites on short notice to inspect vehicles, perform preventative maintenance, and repairs.
• Monitoring - Monitoring/ Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
• Order parts as needed for repairs.
• Examine critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
• Identify mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
• Perform tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.
• Maintain vehicles, which may include a company's fleet of cars, trucks, heavy equipment, tractor/trailers, and other motor vehicles at field sites, traveling extensively to sites that may be a good distance from each other.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
• Repair or replace malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
• Systems Evaluation- Identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.
• Time Management - Managing one's own time
• Operations Analysis - Analyzing needs and product requirements to create a plan or solution.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic and diesel issues on units.
• Plan and establish timetable to complete repairs and maintenance. Notify Fleet Manager and others of repair schedule, prioritizing repairs as needed to meet operational requirements.
• Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation.

Requirements

• Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
• Familiarity with personal computer and email preferred.
• Critical Thinking- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
• Ability to squeeze tools to 80lbs of force.
• Visual Acuity, balancing, stooping, reaching, walking, manual dexterity, grasping, feeling, hearing, talking.
• Ability to walk job site.
• Ability to write complex documents in the English language.
• Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
• Must actively demonstrate the United Utility company values and support the United Utility Ethics and Standards.
• Capacity to think, concentrate and focus for long periods of time.
• Capacity to reason and make sound decisions.
• Oral Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
• Knowledge of United Utility processes and procedures and utilization of developed tools to most effectively manage work is essential.
• An ideal candidate will have a High School diploma or GED.
• Proven ability to demonstrate a high level of ethical behavior, integrity and trust.
• Written Comprehension - The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
• Written Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
• English Language - Knowledge of’ the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of' composition, and grammar.
• Must live within a 45-minute commute from regular work site.
• Capacity to express thoughts orally
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to read complex documents in the English language.
• Ability to climb in/out of a bucket truck.
• Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
• Ability to use a computer for long periods of time.
• Ability to think strategically and develop plans for growth.

• Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
• Must have completed a Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field required and have three years of experience working as a mechanic with heavy equipment.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a working knowledge of United Utility and client technical manuals and procedures; to pass United Utility and client specific training and qualifications as required; to work overtime, to include shift work, weekends, and holidays as needed.
