Sr. Project Engineer, Site/Civil

Description

The role is part of the site development practice within the Buildings & Places business group, contributing to project teams that handle planning, design, and construction administration for both public and private projects. Clients and project sites are spread throughout the Northeast, and the engineer will collaborate closely with project managers and senior staff. A customer‑focused mindset and a passion for delivering high‑quality results are essential.

• Establish and enforce project procedures and standards, collaborating with PMs to develop processes and training.
• Participate in project pursuit decisions, develop proposals, present them to clients, and negotiate contract scopes and fees.
• Prepare contracts and related documents for clients, subconsultants, subcontractors, and vendors in compliance with in‑house counsel.
• Manage project set‑up, review budget setups, work breakdown structures, and oversee cost control, change orders, and risk identification.
• Develop project schedules, coordinate client invoicing, and work with billing professionals.
• Lead client presentations, coordinate technical staff and consultants, conduct progress meetings, and track schedules and budgets.
• Liaise with municipalities and regulatory agencies, oversee construction contract management, observation services, and stormwater permitting.
• Supervise and mentor junior engineers, ensuring high‑quality technical writing and communication.

Requirements

GFT is seeking a Senior Site/Civil Engineer to support a variety of projects across the Northeast region. The position follows a hybrid work model with regular attendance required at the New York City office. Candidates must be able to travel within the region as needed.

Candidates must hold a BS in Civil Engineering (MS preferred) and a Professional Engineer license, with at least seven years of site/land development experience. A thorough understanding of local, state, and federal land‑development regulations, stormwater management, and utility design is required, along with proven project‑management skills. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, as well as strong written and verbal communication, are also needed.

Benefits

The salary range for this full‑time position is $125,000‑$155,000, dependent on experience and location, and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
