Designs, coordinates, and implements highly complex process sampling systems, statistical techniques, and quality systems while developing plant-wide process improvement and cost‑control programs. Reviews customer, industry, and internal specifications to ensure processes meet or exceed requirements and provides technical support to operations, customers, and suppliers. Performs supervisory duties and delivers customer‑requirement training to employees, completing Quality Engineering assignments with minimal supervision.
Defines, specifies, and implements quality standards and procedures for manufacturing processes, driving the development, implementation, and improvement of the Quality Management System across the operation. Supplies advanced quality planning support for new product, process, and service launches, and offers technical advice to cross‑functional improvement teams. Guides less‑experienced engineers, analyzes quality metrics, prepares corrective‑action reports, and assists in root‑cause investigations.
Formulates and enforces quality‑assurance procedures, policies, and standards, and leads internal quality system audits. Supervises assigned personnel, manages training and performance reviews, and supports improvement‑team activities. Evaluates process variables such as capability, MSA, SPC out‑of‑control conditions, and audit findings, and hosts source inspectors or customer auditors as needed.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (or ten years of manufacturing experience in lieu of the degree) and at least three years of manufacturing experience. Must be able to read blueprints, specifications, and requirements, and possess knowledge of machining, assembly, gauging, SPC, APQP, and ISO‑based quality systems (ISO 9001, AS9100). Proficiency with Windows PCs and MS Office is desired.
Preferred qualifications include Six Sigma Green Belt training, ASQ certifications such as CQE, CQA, or CQMgr, and deep knowledge of problem‑solving methods (Six Sigma, 8D, root‑cause analysis). Experience with lean manufacturing, process‑variation reduction, industry‑specific quality registration schemes (ISO/TS‑16949, AS9100), and product‑testing requirements is valued. Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct departmental personnel is essential.
