BHMC Property Accountant

Description

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Property Accountant oversees the financial operations of an assigned property portfolio, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial reporting, and support for year‑end audit processes. The role works closely with the Property Management team to exchange, review, and verify financial data, and must be capable of preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial statements while assisting with audit documentation.

• Post monthly rent, subsidy, and HUD payments.
• Deposit tenant checks, laundry, reserve, and other receipts.
• Process move‑in, move‑out, unit transfers, and AR write‑offs.
• Issue NSF notices to tenants.
• Review property receivables for errors and alerts.
• Perform month‑end AR reconciliation and related functions.
• Process payable invoices and record electronic payments.
• Print and apply association invoices and updates.
• Handle property tax payments to various agencies.
• File property statements as required.
• Process property management, account, resident service, and compliance fees.
• Manage manual checks for due‑to/due‑from bank and payroll payback.
• Prepare manual receipts for due‑to/due‑from forms.
• Transfer property reserves as needed.
• Prepare journal entries and reclassifications.
• Reconcile mortgage statements.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
• Compile the monthly financial package using Yardi software.
• Generate annual AOE reports.
• Upload property budgets into the system.
• Assist with yearly loan confirmations.
• Support year‑end 1099 processing.
• Support year‑end tax return filing.
• Prepare year‑end audit items.
• Answer accounting questions from property managers and resolve issues.
• Assist the Accounting Manager or Operations Supervisor with special projects.
• Conduct end‑of‑year loan and cash confirmation projects.
• Review property financials and related notes.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has at least three years of property bookkeeping or accounting experience with a focus on accounts payable and receivable, strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and proficiency in Yardi and Microsoft Excel. A degree or certificate in accounting is preferred, and the individual must demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.

• Minimum 3 years property bookkeeping/accounting experience, focusing on AP/AR.
• Knowledge of property management accounting and GAAP principles.
• Proficiency with Yardi accounting software (preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong accuracy, attention to detail, analytical, and multitasking abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively with diverse on‑site and off‑site teams.
