Shoals is seeking a hands‑on BESS Quality Leader to oversee testing, validation, and commissioning of Battery Energy Storage System products. The leader will manage a team of technicians performing functional testing, troubleshooting, quality checks, and performance verification before deployment. This role partners with Customer Care and Field Service to resolve issues, analyze field performance trends, and integrate customer feedback into continuous improvement efforts.
The BESS Quality Leader will lead, mentor, and develop a team of BESS Test Technicians, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities include providing hands‑on training, coordinating daily work assignments, managing staffing levels, and ensuring technicians have the necessary tools and resources. The leader will also conduct performance evaluations, set expectations, and support career development across diverse skill sets.
The leader oversees all testing, validation, and commissioning activities for BESS units, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards. This includes supervising functional testing, electrical verification, diagnostics, and accurate documentation of results, non‑conformances, and corrective actions. Additional duties involve maintaining test procedures, calibrating equipment, and driving continuous‑improvement initiatives to enhance throughput, reliability, and efficiency.
Collaboration with Customer Care, Field Service, and Technical Support teams is essential to understand real‑world product performance and support field issue resolution. The leader contributes data‑backed insights to root‑cause analyses, participates in cross‑functional reviews, and provides technical input for customer‑facing documentation such as troubleshooting guides and commissioning checklists. Communication of field performance trends back to manufacturing test teams helps prevent recurrence of issues.
Candidates must have at least three years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, or troubleshooting, preferably within BESS, power electronics, or renewable‑energy manufacturing, and a minimum of three years leading technicians or serving as a shift lead. A strong understanding of high‑voltage systems, battery technologies, power conversion equipment, and electrical safety is required, along with hands‑on experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, and diagnostic tools. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Minitab or similar software, the ability to read schematics, and demonstrated coaching and communication skills are also essential.
Preferred candidates have experience with BESS commissioning, PCS or inverter systems, and familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, or automated test equipment. Knowledge of root‑cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, or FMEA, as well as certifications like Certified Quality Engineer or Six Sigma Green Belt, is advantageous. A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field is also desired.
