In this role you will lead or support utility and power substation projects ranging from 34.5 kV to 500 kV, building effective relationships with clients and key stakeholders across the Power & Utility industry.
- Lead or support utility and power substation projects from 34.5 kV up to 500 kV.
- Develop substation layout drawings, plans, elevations, grounding schemes, raceway layouts, control building designs, cable lists and material lists.
- Create one‑line, three‑line, auxiliary AC/DC power system diagrams, SCADA/communications schematics, relay panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules.
- Perform engineering calculations and prepare technical reports and equipment specifications for client review.
- Manage technical, financial, and scheduling aspects of projects; may act as project manager, client manager, or proposal manager.
- Provide QA/QC reviews and mentor junior engineers and technical specialists.
- Build and maintain client relationships and collaborate across regional and national offices to expand GFT’s power delivery presence.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals, bids, reports, and presentations.

GFT is seeking experienced mid‑ to senior‑level Substation Engineers (Electrical Engineers) to join its expanding Power Group in a hybrid role based in St. Louis, MO.
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, a PE license (or path toward licensure), and at least five years of progressive design, engineering, and project‑management experience in the power and utility sector, as well as proficiency with project‑management software.
Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree and experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Inventor.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a Professional Engineer license or be on the path to licensure.
- Bring at least five years of progressive experience in design, engineering, and project management within the power and utility industry.
- Demonstrate proficiency with project‑management tools such as Microsoft Project for scope, schedule, and budget control.
- Possess design experience in high‑voltage substation and distribution projects and deliver quality technical solutions for major power delivery initiatives.
- Preferred: advanced degree and expertise in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Inventor.
