The role performs complex technical work such as database management, environmental and potable‑water sampling, and preparation of reports for regulatory bodies, providing technical analysis and advice for potable‑water programs and projects while reporting to the Coordinator of Environmental Compliance.
- Initiate, develop, maintain and coordinate environmental datasets for management, planning and field inspections.
- Provide technical analysis and engineering support for potable‑water programs, infrastructure design, operation and asset management.
- Review and comment on drawings, specifications, plans and applications to ensure compliance with City standards and environmental regulations.
- Conduct field inspections, surveys, environmental surveillance and potable‑water testing as required.
- Supervise and direct staff, consultants and contractors.
- Develop and review engineering design, material testing and equipment standards and specifications.
- Research, assemble information and prepare technical reports.
- Approve requisitions, expenditures and other transactions within established authority limits.
- Evaluate and advise on technologies, methods and industry best practices related to environmental services.
- Manage projects, work programs, budgets and contract administration.
- Represent the branch in meetings with internal staff, other departments, the public, consultants, contractors, government agencies and community groups.

The position requires a valid Class 5 driver's licence, a vehicle for work use, and may involve driving a half‑ton truck. Work will be performed from variable bases, primarily the Waste Management Centre, and includes physical tasks in plant, field, and inclement conditions, with occasional irregular hours and standby or overtime as needed.
- Hold a two‑year diploma in Environmental Sciences or Water Resources Engineering Technology and at least two years of related experience.
- Demonstrate knowledge of environmental engineering principles, sampling and monitoring programs, and laboratory/field testing procedures.
- Understand applicable regulatory legislation, planning and budgeting principles, and effective supervision techniques.
- Possess intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (tables, formulas, queries, pivot tables, and data import/export).
- Maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence and have a vehicle available for work; half‑ton truck experience is beneficial.
