This position is for our client in the electric utility industry. The candidate will be responsible for high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage transmission and distribution line designs for with strong focus specifically in Electrical Distribution systems in the Rochester, NY area. The Lead Engineer will work closely with the construction and design team to develop drawings, specifications, and construction work orders to support the design, construction, and commissioning of electrical equipment. Individual must be able to work independently, as well as part of multi-discipline teams producing electrical engineering documents.
- Interface with Construction and Commissioning resources to ensure efficient equipment installations
- Proactively develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve unique problems or to improve processes/services
- Perform field circuit reviews based on the project scope given and identify proposed improvements
- Create engineering bid documents with a focus on unit-based pricing for all projects within the service territory
- Provide technical leadership in complex projects that have a wide impact on the department
- Mentor, develop and support team in technical skills
- Review and approve design detail to provide overview of work to be performed by line and commissioning contractors
- Utilize knowledge to influence and guide department engineers
- Liaison/direct contractors on company policy, standards, and best practices
- Review sketches that include existing and proposed work actions according to approved construction standards
- Oversee and coordinate with internal and external resources the detailed designs according to approved construction standards
- Review design inputs for SAP system notifications and approve corresponding construction work orders

- Track record of effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management
- Work independently with little supervision
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills to decipher unique technical and analytical problems,
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to articulate highly technical concepts,
- Awareness and understanding of key business drivers
- Ability to devise solutions to both common and complex problems/challenges
- General contract, commercial and regulatory awareness with the ability to balance effective and efficient customer service and project delivery, ensuring maximum return on investment
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering
- Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgment to determine optimal solutions
- Knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant output and incentive mechanisms
- Professional Engineering License Preferred
- Construction and Outage Sequencing - Expert
- Experience working with Contractors
- Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization) - Advanced
- Proven ability to lead and manage projects,
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Engineering documentation - Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation - Advanced
- Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels
- Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others - to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements - Advanced
- Strong management and leadership skills, ability to drive change and adoption of new technologies
- Technical Writing and Communication - Expert
- Willingness to have a hybrid office/remote schedule including field work required
- Knowledge on distribution designs and construction preferred
- Experience working on overhead electrical distribution projects preferred
- Practical engineering experience/application - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g., field experience, standardization "Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.") - Advanced
- Experience in the delivery of projects, as necessary
- Computer literacy - Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Access and Word. SAP and Primavera experience is a plus
- Project Scoping and Estimating - Expert
- Ability to collaborate across departments
- Where appropriate, technical, and operational experience in a relevant engineering role within a utility environment
- Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment - Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements - Advanced
- Understands how to read a circuit diagram

Salary Range: $100,000-$140,000The specific salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.
