Interns will work under the mentorship of the Operations Manager to learn project management and estimating. They will receive district support while assisting with tasks such as reviewing contracts, attending meetings, and tracking project schedules and costs.
Additional responsibilities include supporting project managers with utility locates, data entry, project tracking, billing, equipment utilization, and collaborating with the Safety Engineer on site safety audits and field inspections. Interns also participate in the Lunch & Learn program and will deliver a self‑reflection PowerPoint presentation on their industry knowledge and career goals before the internship ends.
Candidates should be college sophomores or higher, or recent graduates within one year of graduation, pursuing a related undergraduate degree or trade school program. No prior experience is required, but strong verbal and written communication, presentation skills, organization, attention to detail, teamwork, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are essential.
Our company strives to provide an opportunity for students to gain education in the electrical utility construction industry through a hands‑on and inclusive internship program. The knowledge and experience gained will help prepare interns for their future careers. Harlan Electric Company, a subsidiary of MYR Group Inc., has been delivering substation, transmission, distribution, live line, and clean‑energy projects across the upper Midwest and Northeast since 1940.
The internship offers exposure to potential post‑graduation career paths, the chance to practice and improve industry skills, and insight into specific role responsibilities. Positions may be subject to background checks and drug testing, and accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities.
