The Senior EHS Engineer serves as a proactive leader on construction project teams, ensuring safe work environments for personnel, subcontractors, and visitors. By collaborating with field staff, management, and external agencies throughout all project phases, they integrate EHS expertise into planning and execution.
In this role the engineer identifies project‑specific hazards, advises on control measures, and communicates contract, regulatory, and company safety requirements to owners, architects, and subcontractors. They review safety submittals, crane and hoisting plans, excavation and scaffolding procedures, hot‑work permits, hazardous‑material reports, and site‑specific safety and logistics plans, while facilitating pre‑construction meetings and all‑hands safety briefings.
The Senior EHS Engineer leads accident investigations, trains emergency‑response teams, conducts work‑area audits, and manages major‑incident analysis. They monitor safety statistics, ensure OSHA compliance, and oversee subcontractor work plans, supporting injury case management and contributing to continuous‑improvement plans.
Required qualifications include 4–7 years of construction‑industry EHS experience, strong knowledge of OSHA and related regulations, excellent communication and leadership skills, and proficiency with MS Office. A bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health is preferred, and a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory record is mandatory.
The position demands work on active construction sites, including prolonged standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lb, plus routine use of standard office equipment. Some travel and driving are required, consistent with Fortis policy.
