SPA Lead Civil Engineer

Description

The Lead Civil Engineer will be embedded in the SPA engineering team, responsible for delivering detailed design output for pipelines, pump stations, and break tanks while ensuring consistent information flow across the discipline. The role also involves monitoring workload, liaising with Design Leads and other designers, and supporting non‑infrastructure elements such as drainage, highway design, and security fencing.

• Deliver detailed design outputs for pipelines, pump stations, and break tanks, ensuring consistency and information flow.
• Monitor workload and coordinate with Design Leads and other discipline designers.
• Address health, safety, and environmental issues, implementing mitigations to protect individuals and minimize environmental impact.
• Own design delivery within the SPA programme, working closely with the client and challenging asset standards where appropriate.
• Collaborate with delivery, procurement, commercial, GIS, utilities, and environmental teams to meet project requirements.
• Mentor graduate engineers, developing their technical knowledge.
• Provide innovative ideas to improve engineering efficiency.
• Apply strong technical knowledge of civils and non‑infrastructure design, using MS Office and engineering software, British Standards and Eurocodes.
• Interpret ground investigation reports to devise appropriate designs.
• Contribute to the mission of making the East of England resilient to drought.

Requirements

• Hold an engineering degree (or equivalent) and preferably be chartered.
• Demonstrate experience in multi‑disciplinary teams designing civil structures, ideally in the water industry.
• Exposure to innovative digital technology and collaborative alliance environment.
