Key responsibilities include supporting the planning, execution and coordination of projects, designing and optimising digital solutions such as building control systems, power distribution, energy monitoring and data analytics platforms. You will engage with customers to understand their energy needs, provide technical support and troubleshooting, analyse consumption data to identify optimisation opportunities, and maintain accurate documentation, reports and presentations.
The Digital Energy Technical Apprentice (Smart Buildings) role is based in Manchester and is part of a UK Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship programme with a salary of £21,000. As an apprentice you will work on energy management and controls for smart buildings and electrical infrastructure, contributing to innovative technologies that optimise energy usage and drive sustainability. You will collaborate with a dynamic, multidisciplinary team to deliver impactful solutions for customers.
Essential skills and attributes include a full UK driving licence, basic IT proficiency, strong communication, problem‑solving and analytical abilities, and a keen interest in sustainability and energy management. You must be able to work independently and as part of a team, adapt to changing priorities, and hold at least five GCSEs (grade 4/C) including English, maths and another STEM subject. Desirable attributes are an understanding of energy management and the ability to analyse data for trends.
During the apprenticeship you will receive both on‑the‑job training from Schneider Electric and off‑the‑job training from a selected provider, with at least 20% of your working hours (average six hours per week) dedicated to protected off‑the‑job learning. The work pattern is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with start and finish times agreed with your line manager and flexibility for training.
The role does not offer visa sponsorship and a driving licence is required, though candidates currently obtaining one are considered, with a company vehicle provided if needed. Schneider Electric’s purpose is to create impact by empowering sustainable use of energy and resources, and the company offers a range of benefits such as competitive salary, bonus scheme, share ownership, pension, generous leave, flexible and hybrid working, wellbeing support, and access to learning and career development portals.
