Full-service construction company offering industrial, commercial, and civil services.
The Carpenter General Foreman oversees and coordinates daily operations of civil construction projects, ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with project specifications and timelines. This role involves supervising crews, managing resources, and serving as a liaison between project managers and subcontractors. The foreman must understand all assigned work and guarantee that standards are met or exceeded.
Key responsibilities include supervising and coordinating civil construction crews performing earthworks, concrete, drainage, storm‑water, and structural tasks, as well as setting direction for on‑site foremen and leadmen to optimize resource use. The foreman provides formal coaching and feedback to foremen, fostering a motivated workforce that adheres to company policies and regulatory requirements. Leadership also extends to holding crew members accountable for company and project rules.
Effective planning is essential: the foreman schedules equipment, materials, and tools to maximize production while minimizing costs, collaborating closely with the Civil Superintendent on daily and weekly activities. Safety management is a core duty, requiring enforcement of company, site‑specific, federal, and state regulations, conducting regular safety and quality audits, and ensuring a safe working environment for all disciplines.
The foreman maintains detailed records of labor and equipment production, comparing actual performance against estimates and communicating any cost overruns or resource concerns to the Civil Superintendent. Mentoring duties include guiding foremen on production costs, scope, quality, and safety, while also keeping crew and equipment matrices current and ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures and best practices. Permit acquisition and oversight of concrete mix designs and cure processes are also part of the role.
Physical requirements involve lifting up to 25 lb regularly (occasionally up to 50 lb), climbing ladders, scaffolds, and uneven terrain, and working in various weather conditions while operating office equipment and vehicles as needed. Mental qualifications include strong communication skills, proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics, decisive decision‑making, attention to detail, and the ability to lead and motivate both management and field workers.
