The Commercial Refrigeration Pipefitter installs, assembles, fabricates, and maintains piping systems for commercial refrigeration equipment such as supermarket rack systems, walk‑in coolers/freezers, and industrial applications, ensuring work meets industry standards, safety regulations, and manufacturer specifications for reliable performance.
Key responsibilities include installing and fabricating refrigeration piping, coordinating routing with other trades, installing valves and supports, performing system testing and start‑up support, conducting maintenance and repairs, and adhering to OSHA, EPA, and mechanical code requirements while documenting work.
- Install, align, measure, and secure refrigeration piping systems for new construction, remodels, and equipment replacements.
- Fabricate and assemble copper, steel, or other refrigeration piping using brazing, soldering, threading, or welding techniques.
- Lay out and plan routing of piping in coordination with refrigeration technicians, electricians, and contractors.
- Install valves, fittings, hangers, supports, and insulation according to code and project specifications.
- Perform pressure testing, evacuation, and charging assistance for refrigeration systems.
- Ensure all piping connections are leak‑free and meet EPA, mechanical code, and company standards.
- Support start‑ups and commissioning with refrigeration technicians as needed.
- Inspect piping systems for wear, corrosion, vibration issues, or damage.
- Repair or replace defective piping, valves, fittings, and insulation.
- Respond to service calls involving piping failures or refrigerant leaks.
- Follow all OSHA, EPA, and company safety protocols for refrigerants, hot work, ladders, and confined spaces.
- Maintain accurate documentation of materials used, piping diagrams, and any refrigerant‑related activities.
- Ensure work meets state/local mechanical codes and industry best practices.

Required qualifications are at least three years of pipefitting experience in a commercial or industrial setting, strong brazing skills, familiarity with refrigeration systems, ability to read blueprints and schematics, and a valid driver’s license; preferred credentials include supermarket refrigeration experience, EPA 608 certification, and OSHA 10/30 training.
- 3+ years of pipefitting experience in a commercial or industrial environment.
- Strong skills in brazing copper and working with refrigeration‑grade piping.
- Familiarity with commercial refrigeration systems (rack systems, condensers, evaporators).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and piping diagrams.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
- Preferred: experience in supermarket or commercial refrigeration installations.
- Preferred: knowledge of EPA refrigerant handling requirements (EPA 608).
- Preferred: OSHA 10/30 certification or other safety training.
