Senior Transportation Engineering Manager

Description

• Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement client capture plans, teaming strategies, and pursuit roadmaps.
• Build and mentor a high-performing team; support staff development through coaching, training, and collaborative leadership.
• Lead business development efforts across western NC and SC, including identifying new opportunities, building client relationships, and positioning VHB for key pursuits.
• Lead or support alternative delivery pursuits and project execution (e.g., Design-Build, P3).
• Serve as a senior point of contact for strategic clients, particularly NCDOT, SCDOT, and local agencies.
• Serve as Senior Project Manager on select transportation design projects—particularly those that are complex, multidisciplinary, or high-profile.
• Drive growth strategy for transportation services in the Charlotte region and surrounding markets; support marketing, branding, and proposal efforts aligned with business goals.
• Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends, regional infrastructure priorities, funding programs, and agency initiatives.
• Participate in industry organizations, events, and conferences to raise VHB’s profile and build meaningful relationships with decision-makers and teaming partners.

Requirements

• Strong familiarity with NCDOT and SCDOT project delivery processes and key contacts.
• Experience with alternative delivery methods (e.g., Design-Build) and contractors is a strong plus.
• Strong understanding of transportation engineering principles, including highway design, permitting, and regulatory standards.
• B.S. in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field.
• Proven success in client relationship management and business development, including developing win strategies and leading proposal efforts.
• Proficiency with design tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, and OpenRoads Designer is beneficial but not required.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina required (SC PE preferred or ability to obtain).
• 11–15+ years of progressive experience in transportation engineering and project delivery.
