Associate Substation Design Engineer P&C

Description

The role involves substation protection and control design support for a major electric utility client, working under senior engineers and reporting to the Substation Engineering Manager.

• Perform substation P&C design tasks, including drawings, specifications, bill of materials, and cable schedules.
• Conduct self‑checks to ensure quality before senior design review.
• Generate computer‑assisted design and construction drawings with high accuracy.
• Calculate AC and DC loads to size auxiliary systems correctly.
• Verify designs comply with client and industry standards.
• Coordinate project activities with the project manager, client, and other stakeholders.
• Track and update design progress using company information systems.
• Support senior engineers at job site meetings and respond to RFIs during construction.
• Participate in a 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions.

Requirements

The job is performed in a professional office setting with standard equipment and may require up to 10% travel. Employees must be able to sit, stand, and move for up to eight hours per day and may need reasonable accommodations for disabilities.

• Hold a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• Possess 0–3 years of substation design experience in utility or consulting settings.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Demonstrate strong analytical, problem‑solving, and detail‑orientation skills.
• Communicate effectively in written and verbal forms.
• Optional: Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification.
• Optional: Experience with Southern California Edison standards.
• Optional: Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Up to 10% travel required.
