The technician will assist with the review, intake, and processing of Public Works Encroachment permit applications, acting as a liaison for the public and utility agencies and providing information on departmental policies, plan‑check requirements, fees, and timelines.
The role is primarily based in an indoor office setting with typical office equipment, requires local travel, and may involve occasional lifting or moving of items up to 20 pounds. Flexibility for occasional field inspections is also expected.
- Review and intake Encroachment Permit plans and applications.
- Determine and collect permit fees and related service charges.
- Route applications to appropriate departments and agencies.
- Maintain accurate files for all applications and verify completeness.
- Provide written and verbal information on permits, codes, zoning, and project status to the public.
- Respond to inquiries about plan‑check timelines and status.
- Enter invoices, process refunds, and reconcile web payments.
- Support public meetings by preparing and distributing agendas and minutes, and setting up rooms or webinars.
- Operate office equipment and use software such as word processing, spreadsheets, permit tracking, and digital archiving tools.
- Manage inventory of forms, applications, and office supplies.
- Build positive relationships with co‑workers, city staff, and the public through excellent customer service.
- Read and interpret maps, construction drawings, and blueprints.
- Apply Public Works procedures, codes, and ordinances.
- May conduct field inspections to verify contractor compliance with specifications.
