Ordnance Specialist

Description

The Ordnance Specialist will train, operate and maintain explosive decontamination equipment, interpreting work review forms and standard operating procedures before field work. The role ensures safe handling, packaging, transport and storage of explosive residues and executes sampling plans in compliance with all applicable regulations.

• Serve on explosive decontamination teams to implement site‑specific WRFs and SOPs in accordance with federal, state and local laws.
• Assist manufacturing departments in decontaminating explosives facilities, rail cars and ordnance storage sites for Navy, DoD and non‑DoD customers.
• Conduct explosive characterization surveys and execute sampling plans, ensuring accurate and timely laboratory submission.
• Provide technical support, quality‑control oversight, site assessments, contingency planning and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain a current HAZWOPER 40‑hour certification and complete required annual refresher training.

Requirements

Candidates must satisfy the education, experience, certification, security clearance and U.S. citizenship criteria required for this position.

• Hold certifications in Naval Explosives Hazard Control (AMMO 18‑DL) or Naval Explosives Safety for Supervisors/Managers (AMMO‑49‑DL) and complete Military Munitions Rule training within 30 days of hire.
• possess a valid Department of Transportation explosive‑handler physical certification.
• Minimum three years of direct experience with explosives/energetics handling, decontamination, demilitarization or demolition.
• Hold a Secret security clearance and U.S. citizenship.
• Ability to travel on short‑duration assignments within the United States as needed.
• Preferred: State‑issued commercial driver’s license (CDL) with HAZMAT endorsement and an explosive driver’s license with HAZMAT endorsement.
• Preferred: Operate backhoe with bucket, warehouse/rough‑terrain forklift and elevating platforms.
