As a Traffic Engineer Project Leader, you will design and implement traffic solutions—such as roundabouts, signals, and raised crosswalks—and conduct planning and traffic studies for public and private clients across Shive‑Hattery’s sectors, including schools, healthcare expansions, and campus walkability projects.
You will lead a team of traffic and transportation engineers, manage project scope, budget and schedule, and serve municipal and state clients throughout the firm’s geographic footprint while interfacing directly with clients.
The Des Moines, IA office has an immediate opening for a licensed Civil Engineer with 7+ years of traffic engineering experience; the role is also eligible for locations in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Quad Cities, St. Louis, or Omaha.
The firm requires U.S. citizenship or permanent work authorization (no visa sponsorship) and is an equal‑opportunity employer.
Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field, 7+ years of traffic engineering experience, an Iowa PE license (or ability to obtain within 12 months), and demonstrated ability to build client relationships, implement traffic signal solutions, and lead project teams.
