Description

The engineer will provide transformational leadership to embed process‑safety ownership across the site, analyze safety data, and drive improvement strategies with site leaders. They will serve as the subject‑matter expert for PHA/LOPA, combustible‑dust hazard management, incident investigations, consequence modeling, and other technical areas, while ensuring regulatory compliance. Additionally, they will develop and deliver both mandatory and site‑specific training, maintain self‑assessment protocols, and support capital projects through global EHS and engineering partnerships.

• Lead process safety culture and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
• Analyze safety data and develop improvement strategies with site leadership.
• Provide expertise on PHA/LOPA, combustible dust, incident investigations, and consequence modeling.
• Apply problem‑solving techniques to recommend multiple safety solutions.
• Deliver mandatory and site‑specific process safety training to all organizational levels.
• Conduct PHA, combustible dust assessments, and LOPA risk assessments to mitigate hazards.
• Maintain self‑assessment protocols and support process safety compliance audits.
• Partner with global EHS and Engineering to support capital projects.
• Update site safety procedures to meet regulatory and corporate standards.

Requirements

This is not an entry‑level or office‑only position; the successful candidate will spend significant time in the field of a chemical manufacturing plant. It is an individual‑contributor role without direct reports, though collaboration with cross‑functional teams is essential.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering or a related discipline and have at least seven years of process safety experience in an industrial setting. Required knowledge includes OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and relevant industry standards such as API and NFPA, as well as proven expertise in risk‑based process safety management systems. Strong communication, multitasking under pressure, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS software (e.g., VelocityEHS) are also required.

Preferred experience includes work with combustible‑dust hazards, proficiency in PHA software like PHA Pro or Sphera ARA, and familiarity with consequence‑modeling tools (PHAST, Aspen, etc.). Experience in pressure‑relief design and analysis (DIERS) is also valued.

• Hold a BS in chemical engineering or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of process safety experience in chemical manufacturing.
• Knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, API, NFPA, and related regulations.
• Expertise in risk‑based process safety management system implementation.
• Proven leadership of PHAs, DHAs, MOCs, and incident investigations.
• Strong verbal and written communication with influencing skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS software such as VelocityEHS.
• Experience with combustible dust hazard management.
• Proficiency in PHA software (PHA Pro, Sphera ARA).
• Familiarity with consequence modeling tools (PHAST, Aspen, etc.).
• Experience in pressure‑relief design and analysis (DIERS).
