The Associate Director, Energy Storage will serve as a key commercial leader responsible for shaping and executing the company's commercial and investment strategy for battery energy storage systems (BESS) across U.S. energy markets. The portfolio currently encompasses roughly 2 GW of projects spanning 12 states, and the role oversees revenue strategy, market prioritization, contracting, and value optimization while collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders.
A primary responsibility is to develop a data‑driven BESS business plan that identifies priority markets, defines successful project characteristics, builds revenue models, and outlines competitive positioning. This includes evaluating merchant and contracted revenue stacks and crafting a market‑entry and investment strategy across ISOs and RTOs to maximize value creation.
The role also executes the business plan by assessing project opportunities, ensuring commercial alignment, and leading structuring activities such as negotiating capacity contracts, tolling arrangements, hybrid off‑take structures, and optimization service agreements. Daily duties involve market analysis, partnership with Structuring & Analytics, customer interfacing, financial modeling, risk mitigation, and supporting technology selection and design.
Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the Associate Director works closely with M&A, Development, Finance, Legal, Origination, Engineering, and Procurement teams, acting as the commercial owner of storage investments from strategy through contracting, optimization, and long‑term revenue planning. Success requires a blend of strategic vision and tactical execution, influencing senior leadership and cross‑functional decision‑making.
Ideal candidates hold a STEM bachelor’s degree (MBA a plus) and 6–10+ years of experience in energy storage, renewables, or power markets, with deep knowledge of market structures, ancillary services, and BESS technologies. The culture values mission‑orientation, teamwork, safety, integrity, initiative, and intelligence, and offers a $170‑190 k base salary, attractive bonus potential, and a comprehensive benefits package.
