The Principal Hydrogeologist will join our established groundwater business and act as the senior technical authority for hydrogeology in the Canadian water and mining markets, while also supporting global projects. This position will collaborate with commercial, project‑management and technical leaders to plan, develop, deliver and operate a wide range of groundwater‑related services.
In this role you will lead technically complex investigations, design studies and modelling efforts throughout the mine lifecycle—from exploration and feasibility through operations, closure and post‑closure. You will also mentor hydrogeologists at all levels, ensure project quality and safety, and help grow the Canadian hydrogeology team by building technical capability, especially in mining.
- Provide senior hydrogeological expertise for Canadian water and mining projects and integrate with global initiatives.
- Lead design, execution and interpretation of hydrogeological investigations, aquifer tests and baseline water assessments across all mine phases.
- Develop and apply groundwater flow, contaminant transport and water‑balance models (e.g., FEFLOW, MODFLOW, MIKE SHE, GoldSim) for dewatering, depressurization and closure studies.
- Mentor and supervise junior to senior hydrogeologists, fostering professional growth and technical excellence.
- Drive business development by identifying, pursuing and winning new mining and water projects, and represent Montrose at industry forums and client presentations.
- Manage client, regulator and Indigenous stakeholder relationships, serving as senior liaison during permitting reviews and public consultations.
- Ensure project delivery adheres to QA/QC standards, health‑safety policies and budgetary constraints.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, methods and regulatory changes, recommending strategic adjustments to practice.

- Travel nationally and internationally as required; maintain a valid Class G driver’s licence.
- Hold a Master’s/PhD in hydrogeology, a P.Geo. or P.Eng. licence (Ontario), 25+ years of experience (15+ in mining hydrogeology), and a proven record of delivering multi‑million‑dollar projects.
