As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic you will work on CAT equipment such as haul trucks, loaders, bulldozers, and excavators in the main shop. The position emphasizes safety, professional standards, and the opportunity to develop expertise across a wide range of diesel and electrical systems.
The role requires maintaining a clean, organized shop, recording time and materials, and using various diagnostic tools. You will also respond to road service calls using a company vehicle, ensuring equipment stays operational in both the shop and the field.
- Maintain a safe, professional work environment.
- Diagnose and perform preventative maintenance on heavy‑duty diesel vehicles and equipment.
- Remove, repair, rebuild or replace engines, transmissions, axles, cylinder heads, oil pumps, generators, starters, and related components.
- Perform electrical tasks including wiring, starter rebuilds, sensor adjustments, and compliance with Clean Air Standards.
- Diagnose fuel‑management, ignition, and engine‑timing systems and change tires as needed.
- Weld broken assemblies and sub‑assemblies.
- Use, store, record, and safeguard tools, parts, and supplies.
- Keep the shop and work area clean and organized.
- Prepare detailed reports of time, materials, parts used, and work completed.
- Operate diagnostic equipment and respond to road service calls using a company vehicle.

The job involves physical demands such as standing for long periods, lifting up to 100 lb, kneeling, crouching, and using hand and arm strength to handle tools and parts. - Possess at least 3 years of fleet/transportation repair experience with medium‑to‑large companies.
- Hold a valid driver’s license; CDL (Class A) preferred.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and ability to read maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and other safety regulations applicable to heavy‑duty equipment.
- Demonstrate urgency, ownership, strong problem‑solving, follow‑up, and customer‑service skills.
- Preferred certifications: PA Inspection License A+, Air‑Conditioning/Refrigeration Technician, DOT brake adjustment certification.
