The role involves leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex cable projects for transmission system operators, distribution network operators, private developers and other global energy clients, overseeing the full project lifecycle from feasibility to commissioning.
- Lead delivery of HV/EHV cable system design, procurement, and commissioning across project lifecycles.
- Serve as technical lead and primary client interface for major cable packages, ensuring quality and schedule compliance.
- Develop and review cable routing, thermal, electromagnetic analyses, and burial risk assessments.
- Plan and manage complex installations, including pulling, jointing, short‑circuit, and cleating calculations for subsea, tunnel, and urban projects.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs (civil, structural, substation, marine, OHL) to create integrated solutions.
- Provide technical governance and assurance aligned with IEC, CIGRÉ, and National Grid Transmission Procedures.
- Oversee FAT/SAT, cable manufacturing inspections, and installation verification.
- Lead and mentor engineering teams, fostering technical growth and performance management.
- Contribute to business development through proposals, client presentations, and partnership building.
- Drive innovation, digital delivery, and best practices within the cables discipline.

We are seeking an experienced Associate Director for our Transmission & Distribution team in the UK. This pivotal leadership role will guide the strategic growth and technical delivery of high‑voltage cable systems across the UK and international energy markets.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in on‑shore HV/EHV cable system delivery, strong knowledge of design and installation standards, proficiency in technical analyses, and proven leadership in managing technical teams and client relationships.
- Possess extensive experience delivering onshore HV/EHV cable projects for regulated utilities or energy transition schemes.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of cable system design, installation, commissioning, and relevant standards (NGTP, IEC, CIGRÉ).
- Proficient in ampacity, short‑circuit, electromagnetic, and thermal analysis and validation.
- Proven leadership managing technical teams and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Experienced in client engagement and providing strategic technical advice on complex cable projects.
- Familiar with health, safety, and environmental standards for high‑voltage environments.
- Experience with key UK and international clients such as National Grid, SSE, EirGrid, EDF, or renewable developers.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or progress toward chartership (desired).
- National Grid CDAE or equivalent cable system certification (desired).
- Proficiency with cable system software tools (e.g., CYMCAP, WinCable, ElectraMagnetics Studio, PLAXIS) (desired).
- Strong project management and commercial awareness (desired).
