Senior Technician - Environmental or Engineering

Description

• Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
• Oversee drilling, logging of borings, and instrumentation installation;
• Provide CQA monitoring on several types of construction and/or environmental activities on enviro-civil construction sites;
• Perform tasks in other company practice areas including general construction services, environmental sampling, contractor oversight, or construction quality assurance activities, as needed.
• Perform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, geosynthetics, and other materials primarily associated with landfill and/or waste containment system construction;
• Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company’s Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures; and
• Perform in-place moisture-density results to verify project compaction requirements are met;
• Monitor activities on job sites to assure compliance with relevant contract documents (e.g., technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, CQA plans etc.);
• Assure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures;
• Assist in the preparation of the final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices;
• Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation in work progress meetings;
• Prepare daily and weekly field reports, construction schedules & progress reports;

Requirements

• Strong mathematical background with the ability to perform calculations in basic geometry and use of algebra. (required)
• Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. (required)
• Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
• Practical field experience conducting operation and maintenance of mechanical systems including simple troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems. (preferred)
• Fieldwork: Up to 100%
• Ability to spend the workday standing and walking across construction sites when needed. (required)
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software programs. (required)
• Exposure to the execution of in-situ and ex-situ remediation projects technologies such as chemical injection technologies, pump and treat systems, and landfill gas recovery systems (preferred).
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of four (4) years of applicable experience; or an Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college and a minimum of two (2) years of applicable experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in science, construction management, engineering, physical science, environmental science, or related subjects; or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, Technical experience in construction services, geotechnical, environmental, or related engineering disciplines. • Valid U.S. driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and reliable transportation, for business travel. (required)
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated and possess a strong work ethic. (required)
• Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
• Candidates must currently hold and maintain valid U.S. work authorization. New H-1B visa lottery and employment based green card sponsorship are not available for this position.
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing (e.g., emails) with peers, subcontractors, supervisors, and clients to report findings, convey ideas and explain observations. (required)

Benefits

• Minimum: $32.62/hour / Maximum: $45.67/hour (Acton, MA)
• Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, radiation safety (for a portable soil moisture/density gauge), first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring that will be paid for by Geosyntec.
