This role is not suited for fully remote candidates or those requiring complex or infrequent travel to reach an office or client site.
We're currently seeking a Plumbing Engineering Practice Leader to join our team. This is a key leadership role for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) who brings deep expertise in plumbing systems and is ready to drive design excellence, mentor a team, and collaborate across disciplines to create environments that truly serve people.
Candidates must be located in the Eastern or Central time zone and within a reasonable, efficient travel distance to one of our offices in Columbus, OH; Cincinnati, OH; or Greensboro, NC. This typically means being within driving distance or a short, direct flight away-close enough to be onsite regularly and able to travel quickly when needed.
This role is national in scope and open to candidates who have demonstrated success working effectively in a distributed, hybrid environment. While we operate with flexibility, the majority of our team is based in one of our physical offices, and we believe that certain work is best done in person. We value the rhythm of hybrid work-but we also know when to show up, in person, to do the work that matters most.
- Proficiency with relevant software (Revit, Bluebeam, and industry-specific calculation tools like HASS or Pipe Flow Expert).
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Familiarity with sustainable plumbing system design, including water conservation strategies, LEED, WELL, and green infrastructure.
- Experience leading or significantly contributing to multi-disciplinary teams in a collaborative studio environment.
- Comfortable engaging in client meetings, presentations, and business development efforts when needed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills, a commitment to design excellence, and an attention to detail.
- Deep knowledge of plumbing system design principles, codes (IPC, UPC, NFPA, ASPE standards), and best practices.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects from schematic design through construction administration, including coordinating with consultants, contractors, and clients.
- Proven track record of contributing to built work in relevant markets (e.g., educational, civic, workplace, or institutional projects).
- Ability to collaborate with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders from concept through construction.
- Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, task management, and quality control.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license; must be licensed in at least one U.S. state with the ability to obtain reciprocity.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor engineering personnel and coordinate across disciplines (architecture, structural, electrical, etc.).
- Familiarity with the production of technical documentation (e.g., CDs, RFIs, submittals) and the ability to support or lead construction-phase services.
- Experience integrating plumbing systems within complex architectural and MEP coordination environments.
