The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor oversees a maintenance shop under the direction of a Maintenance Manager, supervising a technician team that performs preventive maintenance and repairs on a diverse fleet of trucks, containers, and heavy‑duty equipment while ensuring compliance with company safety standards and federal and state regulations.
Key duties include directing A, B, and C level technicians to complete work safely and efficiently, monitoring operational performance, reporting to management, and recommending process improvements. The role also involves daily shop huddles, fleet walks, coaching, hiring and termination decisions in partnership with HR, conducting employee training and performance evaluations, and ensuring proper merit and promotion recommendations.
The supervisor conducts inspections of external repairs, performs quality‑control checks, oversees complex diagnostics and road‑testing, manages shop inventory and purchasing within budget, and approves expense requests up to the designated authority level. Advanced knowledge of engines, emissions, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, HVAC, and welding is required to troubleshoot and restore equipment promptly.
Administrative responsibilities cover payroll processing, maintaining employee and maintenance records in Dossier Maintenance Software, preparing and submitting budgets, and setting departmental goals aligned with division objectives. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, multiple ASE certifications, at least three years of heavy‑equipment maintenance experience, and one year of supervisory experience with a strong grasp of DOT, OSHA, and related regulations.
Compensation ranges from $75,100 to $103,300, dependent on location, with eligibility for an annual incentive bonus targeting 10% of base pay.
